Job interview scenario

You may have been applying for lots of jobs recently and have finally been invited for an interview. This can be very exciting but many people find interviews extremely daunting and often feel that they have not really shown their best side due to being overwhelmed with nerves.

There are definitely ways in which you can handle your nerves and actually turn them around into a positive force that drives your performance.

Preparation Is Key

The more prepared you are, the less nervous you will feel. Research the company thoroughly – understand their values, recent news, and the specific requirements of the role. Prepare answers to common interview questions and practise them aloud. The more familiar you are with your own responses, the more naturally they will flow during the interview.

Practise, Practise, Practise

Ask a friend or family member to conduct a mock interview with you. This will help you get used to answering questions under a small amount of pressure and will help you refine your answers. Pay attention to your body language as well – maintain eye contact, sit up straight, and try to appear relaxed.

On the Day

Arrive early so you have time to compose yourself. Take deep breaths and remember that a small amount of nervousness is completely normal and can actually help you stay alert and focused. The interviewers want you to do well – they've invited you because they were impressed by your application.

Turn Nerves into Energy

Channel your nervous energy into enthusiasm for the role. Speak with conviction about why you want the position and what you can bring to the company. Remember, confidence comes from knowing your worth and being prepared to demonstrate it.
